The Chitlang homestay hiking tour is one of the closest hiking routes from the capital city of Kathmandu. Chitlang is an ancient Newari settlement and village development committee located in the Thaha Municipality of Makwanpur District, in Nepal's Bagmati Province. It is situated in a valley at an elevation of about 1,600 meters, just southwest of the Kathmandu Valley. Staying in a homestay is the best way to experience the richness and diversity of Nepalese culture, as it allows time to engage with the locals. The Chitlang village tour is an exclusive destination for those interested in rural life. This tour showcases the culture of the Tamang people and the traditional lifestyles of the Newar community, all while offering a stunning panoramic view of the mountains from Chandragiri Hill (2551m). From here, you can clearly see the Annapurna Ranges, Ganesh Himal, Buddha Himal, Manaslu, and Langtang Ranges. The surrounding lush greenery and natural beauty are other highlights of the area.
The Chitlang hiking tour is ideal for nature lovers, researchers, and those interested in religion and history, as well as for sightseeing and bird watching. The region boasts an immense diversity of flora and fauna. Inscriptions found in this area date back to the Licchavi era, and it's noted that around 160 species of birds can be observed in the village. During the Rana regime, Chitlang was the only village on the trail towards India, located in the southern part of Nepal.
The village is home to a large apple garden, an organic vegetable farm, and a goat cheese farm. It is surrounded by hills covered in blue pine trees, providing cool and fresh air. While agriculture remains the main source of income for locals, many are gradually turning to tourism, establishing homestays that traditionally showcase their daily lives. These experiences offer something special for visitors. Recently, a few cottages have been built amidst the gardens, providing an exciting and comfortable stay for tourists.
Throughout the village, various signs illustrate that the community has been educated and civilized since ancient times. Visitors can observe many houses, temples, and stupas, all constructed with remarkable wood and stone carvings, artistic rest houses, stone-paved taps, and inscriptions from long ago, which serve as proof of their sophisticated society. History recounts that during the Rana regime, goods were carried to Kathmandu on the shoulders from Chitlang village.

We met Bishnu in Kathmandu and we reached the Cithlang Village after a great trip by cable car and then we had an amazing nature walking. It was a pleasure to have an home stay and the day after we enjoyed boating at Marku Village Lake. We experienced also a nice local bus trip to Pharphing.
