The Dhulikhel Namobuddha Hiking adventure begins in the charming town of Dhulikhel. As we follow the scenic and unspoiled trail, we eventually reach Gaukhu Shwar Mahadev, a beautifully designed Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Continuing along the challenging uphill trail, we make our way toward Kavrekot, a spectacular viewpoint offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes and mountains.

As the hike continues, the trail leads us toward the sacred Kali Mandir before eventually reaching our final destination, Namobuddha. Here, we can experience the peaceful atmosphere of the Buddhist monasteries and gompas, which create a sense of tranquility and spiritual harmony. After exploring Namobuddha and enjoying its serene surroundings, we descend toward Panauti, where we board our vehicle for the return journey to Kathmandu.

Legendary Background of Namobuddha - According to Buddhist tradition, Namobuddha is associated with the story of a prince named Mahasattva, who lived many thousands of years ago. Legend has it that the prince encountered a starving tigress and her five cubs in the forest. Moved by compassion, he sacrificed his own body to provide food for the hungry animals.

It is believed that this compassionate prince was later reborn as Gautama Buddha. According to tradition, Buddha visited this sacred site during his lifetime, walked around the stupa three times, and offered prayers. Because of this sacred history, Namobuddha is considered an important pilgrimage destination, and many devotees believe that visiting the site with sincere faith and devotion brings peace, blessings, and freedom from negative influences.

Outline Itinerary:

Detail Itinerary Short Itinerary

Day 01:Drive from kathmandu to Dhulikhel 36km and Hike to Namo Buddha (1,750m) 5 hrs hike.

Starting early in the morning, the tour begins with a drive to Dhulikhel, located approximately 36 km from Kathmandu. The drive takes around one and a half hours. Situated at an altitude of approximately 1,550 meters, Dhulikhel lies along the historic Araniko Highway and offers beautiful views of the surrounding hills and mountains.

The hike from Dhulikhel to Namobuddha begins at the Kali Temple. From the temple, we follow the steps leading to the top before descending through a scenic trail that passes through local communities and traditional settlements. After approximately 30 minutes of hiking, we reach Kavre Bhanjyang.

From Kavre Bhanjyang, the trail gradually climbs toward Namobuddha. The uphill hike takes approximately three hours, passing through peaceful forests, rural villages, and beautiful landscapes along the way.

Upon reaching Namobuddha, you will experience a peaceful and spiritual atmosphere. Namobuddha is home to Tashi Yangtse Monastery, one of Nepal’s most important and revered Buddhist pilgrimage sites. The monastery provides a serene environment where you can relax and immerse yourself in the local Buddhist culture.

In the evening, explore the surroundings of Namobuddha Monastery and participate in the Puja (worship ceremony) with the monks. After completing the Puja, enjoy dinner with the monks and experience the peaceful monastic lifestyle.

Overnight: Monastery Guest House at Namobuddha.

Day 02:Hike down to the Sankhu phedi along the road to Panauti and drive back to Kathmandu.

Early at 6:00 AM, we will join the monks for a one-hour Puja (worship ceremony) in the peaceful surroundings of the monastery. After completing the Puja, we will enjoy breakfast with the monks and experience the serene atmosphere of monastic life.

Take some time to appreciate the beauty and tranquility of the Buddhist monasteries and gompas, whose peaceful surroundings create a sense of calm and spiritual harmony.

After breakfast, we begin our descent from Namobuddha toward Panauti. Along the way, you have the option of either hiking all the way to Panauti or taking a local bus or small tempo for part of the journey.

Upon reaching Panauti, we will have time to explore this charming and historically significant town, known for its traditional Newari architecture, ancient temples, and cultural heritage. We will enjoy lunch in Panauti before beginning our drive back to Kathmandu in the evening.

Our memorable Dhulikhel–Namobuddha–Panauti Hiking adventure comes to an end as we arrive in Kathmandu.

Bishnu is a fantastic guide, a very kind and very knowledgeable man. He accompanied us the entire trip, always making us feel at home. we did the trek with him to Dhulikhel up to the Namobhudda monastery it was an unforgettable experience. we met his family and he was kind enough to invite us to dinner. Bishnu is fantastic when we return to Kathmandu we will call him for other experiences. he became our friend.

We made with Bishnu few beautiful trekking and hiking in Katmandu area. He is the best - beautiful views,perfect weather (no rain),he always perfect organize communication (jeep or bus) and at the end of a day I have always possibility to drink some beer or roxi :D I strongly recommend him through his company mountain miracle treks.
