Here I will share an opportunity for visitors of Nepal to experience a newly developed trekking route in Eastern Nepal. I am speaking of The Mundum Trail. Originating in Kirati culture, the term Mundum refers to the oral scripture that guides the lives of the people of this culture, rooted more in tradition than religion.

The Mundum trekking trail will lead us through the scenic districts of Bhojpur, Sankhuwasabha, Khotang, and Solukhumbu. Our travels will begin in Kathmandhu. From Kathmandhu we will drive 225 km to Halsei, and then onward to Diktel.

Halesi is an important spiritual center revered by Buddhists, Hindus, and Kirati's. Every year the festivals Ram Nawami, Sakela, Bala Chaturdashi, Sakala, and Teej draw the devoted to sacred sites including Maratika Gampa, Murdum Cave, Kalikasthan, Bhairavthan, kakani, and most notably Mahadev Cave -- Believed to be a meditation site of Gautam Buddha.

First introduced in 2018, this route begins near the Halesi Temple, and follows high ridges giving trekkers sweeping Himalayan views - the very essence of Mountain Miracles! This trail gives visitors a rich cultural experience of lifestyle, age old traditions, and the ancient practices of the Kirat, Rai, and Limbu communities. Because this route remains isolated, trekkers must arrange their own accommodations and meals, as tea houses are limited. If you are seeking a truly adventurous trek through pristine landscapes you will surely enjoy this experience.

The gradual ascent over ridges and hills provides amazing views of over 25 Himalayan peaks, including Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Shishapangma, and Cho Oyu. The trek reaches it's highest point on Silichung Peak (4,200 m). On this route trekkers encounter rhododendron forests, bamboo groves, and broad views stretching from Everest to Kanchenjunga. A major highlight of our trip is the 180° Himalayan panorama, showcasing peaks such as Manaslu, Dorje Lakpa,

Numbur, Karyalung, Gaurishankar, Kwangde, Kusum Kangaru, Thamserku, Khangtega, Kyasar, Mera Peak, Nuptse, Everest, Lhotse, Chamlang, Makalu, and Kanchenjunga.

Typically completed in 13 to 14 days, this trek requires working with a trekking agency for permits and important preparations.The Mundum trek is a very good choice for travelers seeking a visually stunning journey that provides a wonderful culturally immersive experience as well. Trip Highlights

Day 01:Arrival in Kathmandu – Transfer to Hotel, and trek preparation -1365m.

You will be welcomed by our staff at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu, then transferred to your hotel. In the evening, there will be a briefing about the trip, allowing you time to prepare for the trek during the day.

Day 02:Drive from Kathmandu to Diktel Bazar-1,650m-11 hours’ Drive.

The travel plan sounds good. I understand that it will take about 8 hours by private jeep or bus from Kathmandu to Diktel Bazaar, and we will stay overnight at a guest house or hotel there. Looking forward to the journey!

Day 03:Drive from Diktel Bazar to Chakhewa Bhanjyang -2,300m- and trek to Temke Dad 3010m 4 hour’s walk.

After breakfast, we will drive about 42 km to Chakhewa Bhanjyang at 2300m. After check-in and lunch, we’ll take a side trip hike to Temke Danda (3010m), where we can enjoy views of Everest, Lhotse, Shishapangma, Makalu, Cho Oyu, and even parts of Tibet and India. Then we’ll return to Chakhewa and stay overnight at a lodge or homestay.

Day 04:Trek from Chakhewa to Dhotre -2,752m-6 hours walk.

After breakfast in Chakhewa, the trail climbs gently through dense forest toward Dhotre (2,752 m) on a 7–8 hour scenic walk. Along the way, enjoy beautiful rhododendron blooms and peaceful surroundings with occasional hill views.Dhotre is a quiet Kirati village with simple, cozy tea houses offering warm meals and a restful overnight stay.

Day 05:Trek from Dhotre to Maiyung Hans pokhari ( Duck Pound) -3,150m-6 hours walk.

Our trek begins today. After breakfast, we depart from Dhotre and head toward Maiyung. Along the way, we pass through Chautara and Mattim Danda before reaching Hanspokhari (Duck Pond) in Maiyung. Situated at an elevation of 3,120 meters above sea level, Maiyung has no teahouses or lodges, so camping is the only accommodation option available.

Day 06:Trek from Maiyung Hans pokhari -3122m to Rawadhap 3426m-Camping) 7 hours walk.

Today, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of the native tribes along the Mundhum Trek. After trekking for 7 to 8 hours—the longest day of the journey—you’ll reach Rawadhap camp for an overnight stay. Along the way, you’ll pass through ethnic settlements such as Satdobato, Hyakule, and Laure Bine. The experience becomes even more enriching with scenic agricultural fields, warm hospitality from locals, and the unique customs and culture of the Kirati people.

Day 07:Trek from Rawadhap - Salpa Bhanjyang 3348m (kulopankha) (Tea house) 5 hour walk.

Embark on a journey to explore the vibrant culture, traditions, and lifestyle of the Kirati and Rai people as we trek from Rawadhap to Salpa Bhanjyang. The term Bhanjyang refers to a mountain pass—a low point nestled between two higher elevations. Along the way, we will traverse the Mani Wall of Nikasa, the Mani of Handi Lake, and the Mani of Salpa Pass, before spending the night at the serene Salpa Pokhari. Salpa is a revered pilgrimage site, attracting devotees from far and wide who come to offer their prayers. Today’s trek from Rawadhap to the Salpa basecamp takes approximately 4 to 5 hours, promising both cultural immersion and breathtaking natural scenery.

Day 08:Excursion Hike to Silichung -4152m-via Kulpankha. Return to Salpa Bhanjyang.

We begin the day with an early morning hike to Silichung Danda, standing at 4,153 m—the highest point on the Mundum Trail Trek. From this vantage, you’ll be treated to breathtaking views of the Himalayan ranges, verdant valleys, dense forests, and occasional avalanches. Majestic peaks such as Kanchenjunga, Cho Oyu, Lhotse, Makalu, Thamserku, Kangtenga, Amadablam, Dorje Lakpa, and Kusum Kanguru rise in the distance. After soaking in these spectacular sights, we continue to Salpa Lake. The night will be spent at Salpa Pokhari, either in a cozy tea house or a campsite.

Day 09:Trek from Salpa Bhanjyang- 3348m to Hyakule 2972m, 5-6 hours walk.

You’ll follow the same route from Rawadhap to Hyakule, retracing the path you took earlier. The journey will take roughly 7–8 hours, as you make your way carefully down the hilly terrain. The descent can feel slow and tiring, so pace yourself and take regular breaks to enjoy the scenery. Hyakule sits at a high elevation of 2,972 meters, making it one of the higher points in this hilly region. The camp here offers a scenic spot to rest, surrounded by rolling hills and crisp mountain fresh air overnight at camp.

Day 10:Trek from Hyakule to Maiyung danda -3333m- 4 hours walk.

From Hyakule, you’ll continue your trek towards Maiyung Danda, which sits at an elevation of 3,333 meters. The walk will take approximately 4 hours, ascending gradually through the hilly terrain. Along the way, you’ll pass through scenic ridges and forested areas, with occasional viewpoints offering expansive vistas of the surrounding mountains and valleys. Maiyung Danda is a serene high-point camp, ideal for resting and soaking in the panoramic views.

Day 11:Trek from Maiyung danda to Delikharka Bhojpur -1800m-6 hours walk.

Rewrite-Trek Maiyung Danda to Delikharka, Bhojpur Approx. 6 hours walk Around 1,800 m above sea level Moderate trails through forests, terraced fields, and small villages Scenic views of the surrounding hills, local Bhojpur culture, and traditional villages overnight at hotel.

Day 12:Drive from Bhojpur to Kathmandu-338 Km by local standard Bus 11 hour’s Drive.

After an early breakfast, we will begin our long drive back to Kathmandu. Your guide will assist you with any needs or queries along the way on the same highway. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to our hotel in Thamel. In the evening, enjoy a complimentary cultural dinner program hosted by the Mountain Miracle Treks. Cost Includes

The airport picks up and drops by private vehicle for your Arrival and departure.
We provide ground transportation with a car, van, jeep, coaster, or Sutlej depending on the group size.
Travel from Kathmandu to Diktel by local bus, then continue by local jeep; return by flight from Bhojpur.

A farewell dinner in Kathmandu at a traditional Nepali cultural restaurant after finishing the tour.

All alcoholic beverages, cold drinks, and dessert items are excluded.
Entrance fees for monuments and temples during your city tour.
Expenses for personal items and meals while you are in urban areas like Kathmandu .
Hot shower, Wi-Fi, Battery Charge, etc. during your Trek.
Personal trek/ tour gear (equipment) is not included.
Tipping for a guide, porters, and driver is expected.
Any additional expenses that are not specified in the included section.
